Everyday activities to do with kids while you Au Pair in Paris

In our previous post we talked about why should you Au Pair at least once. Okay, so you decided to apply for the Au Pair in France program and you found a suitable host family in Paris. You arrived and now you can begin your adventure and Au Pair experience.

When you Au Pair in France, in this case in Paris, it would be a bit of a waste if you and the kids spent the majority of your time indoors. Paris is a big city with a wide variety of attractions, places to see and things to do. No matter your preference, you will surely be able to find something that you can enjoy. But Paris is not just attractive for adult tourists. It also has plenty of fun stuff for kids so you can all enjoy. Here are just a few of things you can do everyday when you are an au pair in Paris!

The first place you absolutely have to go to Disneyland Paris. There’s no child (or even adult) who wouldn’t want to visit this ‘magical’ place. There’s fun, laughter and time well spent for everybody, literally! For example, you can start with the Adventure Isle, turn yourself into a treasure hunter and try to discover the many secrets behind Skull Rock. When you’ve had enough of treasure hunting, you can turn to something more exciting and ‘modern’. Visit ‘Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast’. Every kid (and most of adults) these days has seen Toy Story and knows who Buzz is. So why not join Buzz for an intergalactic adventure in his laser-shooting gallery and help him defeat Zurg?

After the laser shooting you will probably want to take it slow, so we recommend that you visit Alice’s Curious Labyrinth. This will be more fun for the kids, but you can enjoy it as well. The next stop is the La Cabane des Robinson which is a large treehouse built by a shipwrecked Swiss family Robinson, a real family adventure!

We could dedicate entire articles just to show you what you can find at Disneyland Paris, but we will leave you with these because they appear most exciting to us. If you want to know more, we recommend that you visit Disneyland’s official website.

You’re probably aware that sometimes it’s hard to teach kids and keep them entertained. That’s why taking them to a various puppet shows is a great idea. You can choose between the children’s theatres at various Paris parks such as Luxembourg or Buttes Chaumont as this ia great way to entertain children aged 2 to 8 years. The shows are in French and the kids will definitely recognize some of the familiar stories and tales. Not that you will keep the kids away from video games and iPads but you will also appreciate the throwback to simpler times.

When you Au Pair in France and you decide to dedicate one entire day to outdoor activities, you will soon realize that there is too much to do and see and that you don’t have that much energy. You need to take a breather and relax. And the kids need it as well even though they have more energy than you! And if the day appears to be hot, you definitely need a place to rest and relax. But what place can offer you a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and something for the children as well? You can find various children-friendly beverages called diablo mente (mint devil). These beverages are both refreshing and fun for children. The cocktail is part mint syrup, part lemonade and it’s delicious! The colours are fun and together with the minty taste, it’s the perfect thing for kids. Some cafes serve these drinks with raspberry or peach syrups, in case the minty devil is too devilish for kids.

If you and the kids wish to get more hands-on experience in the world’s foremost culinary capitals, then you should definitely take some cooking classes. The La Cuisine Paris offers two to four hour cooking classes where you will learn how to make croissants, pastries or even an entire meal! The classes are in English and directed by real chefs and represent a great way for cultural and culinary immersion. Put on your chef hat, start whisking and don’t plan a meal anytime soon after.

These are only a few things that you can do with the children when you Au Pair in France. We know the list is a bit short, but rest assured that we will be providing some more interesting tips and tweaks on how to make your Au Pair in France experience even more memorable.
